Time For Piano Blog

2015 was a wonderful year for Time for Piano for so many reasons. The redefinition of the business logo saw the Time for Piano butterfly grow to reach a wider student community. Our first group concert reflected both the diversity of music being played and the individuality among us. It also demonstrated our ethos of nurturing not only the musically gifted, but anyone with a personal motivation to communicate through music.

We listened to each other play both classical and modern repertoire, with performances from the earliest beginners to established pianists. A number of students spoke to our audience of parents and friends to give more insight into how we learn and progress with our piano studies. We heard how distinctions were achieved for some pieces in exams throughout 2015. Students currently studying for grades were given the opportunity to perform their music to an audience prior to their formal assessment. More recent beginners made contributions of music and word, providing us with the most notable memories of their first lessons. We also considered the benefit of music for well being in our section of playing music for enjoyment - away from the pressure of exams. There were solo and duet performances throughout and the concert finished with a burst of 'Jingle Bells.'

Although the concert was a particular highlight, the process of meeting and teaching new students was also really exciting. Everybody brings something different to the learning experience. It can be hugely challenging and rewarding for student and teacher to explore new repertoire and technique in different ways. I sometimes wonder what brings individuals to 'Time for Piano' but whatever the reason it is always a privilege to teach them.

I am really looking forward to the year ahead - teaching and playing music with everyone at 'Time for Piano and I can't wait for the next concert in December 2016.
